When the pandemic hit in March last year Georgian family, Eva (Year 6) and her parents Anita and Kristian Karppi, set out to support and be dedicated to Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals by turning the kindness of local people into tangible, urgently needed goods. Their work so far has inspired individuals and businesses across Weybridge and beyond to donate what they can to support their local hospitals trust.

The fantastic local initiative, Help Your NHS, has raised over £14,000 to date, not only enabling them to provide much-needed medical equipment and PPE (digital thermometers, pulse oximeters, handmade reusable high-quality scrubs, reusable shoe covers and intubation shields) but also funding self-care packages, food and drink for NHS staff.

As we mark a year of the pandemic, front line staff continue to give their all physically and mentally. We are told to ‘stay at home to save lives’ and the NHS are working 7 days per week with very long shifts commuting in the rain and snow. The demand for PPE remains, but more important now is the need to lift the spirits of those working tirelessly to keep our NHS going.

If every Georgian family could donate just £1 we could fund 800 intensive hand creams or 3200 protein bars to help our local #nhsheroes and give them the boost and virtual hug they truly deserve.
